Nautilus restoration on SUSE Leap42.3
With the problems that Dolphin file mamager has with handling authentication to remote machines, a roll back to Nautilus provides a fairly tidy solution. On the whole, simply uninstalling Dolphin and installing Nautilus has picked up the main points but left a few loose ends.
Firefox does not pick up the new app for 'open containing folder' which flags one of the areas where legacy processes are replaced without any real need. Firefox would seem to still be using the legacy defaults.list
file to identify the application to open. Something that affects a number of distribtutions as the solution I found on askubuntu confirms.
One area that still gives some problems is getting the various different windows styles to better match one another. The Nautilus window does not use the KDE framework and as yet I have not found how to bring font sizes in line. But that is not unusual, KDE has at least three different tools to set windows styles so perhaps it is now time to switch back to Gnome?
The other area that I still need to nail is retaining the remote link bookmarks. After a reboot to get Firefox working, the half dozen remote machines were not listed in Nautilus.
