No AI is not a performance improvement

I've given up on Mistral for help with the current work on getting mapserver running on my machines. While it may be giving solutions that bypass the problems I'm trying to discuss, it just does not answer the actual question. I've got in a bit of a mess now, as I have got the cgi-viewer and tutorial stuff basically working, but they are hacks to fix error messages rather then tidying the scripts to reflect CURRENT requirements for Mapserver 8 ... despite the links claiming that they have been tested on that version. Time I think to backpedel a bit and get eclipse fired up again. Firefox's debug tools are doing a good job, and I can find text in Dolphin and switch to Kate to replace it but at least in eclipse I can see that text in the context and all the files that need modifying are listed. Yes Mistral has given me a script to hack them and I sort of understand what it is doing, but it is just hacking things rather than fixing the underlying problems. In addition, I do need to move the demo's into the right place in the website tree which will also help.

Things would perhaps be a little easier if the error messages from mapserver where not so cryptic. I've added MS_MAP_BAD_PATTERN to the mapserver.conf file which cleared one failure and now I've found MS_DEBUGLEVEL and MS_ERRORFILE which is helping but there seem to be things I am missing in the migration path to mapserver 8 ...

TODO - Work out why the link to the blog is showing the post link rather than the root blog link ... something else to fix in eclipse ...
Need to link these to what was the bug system many moons ago so I can clear them over time!
